Little Emma’s Battle with Liver Cancer: Help Support Her Journey

Behind pretty blue eyes, little Emma. The 2-year-old girl has liver cancer. His parents, Cindy and Jason Flasque, learned of the terrible diagnosis on June 5. “It’s a big blow,” admits the mother.

On June 3, Emma, ​​lying on the sofa, has a hard lump in her stomach. Worried, his parents go to see their attending physician. The little one had an ultrasound at Sarre-Union, which did not allow us to find out more. The doctor then contacted the Nancy hospital in order to carry out further examinations. The verdict is in: Emma has liver cancer with metastases to the lungs.

Rebecca Blum, sister of Cindy Flasque, took the initiative to launch a kitty to cover travel costs between the parents’ home in Hazembourg and the Brabois hospital in Vandoeuvre-lès-Nancy. This is available online to support the family, 48 people have already participated. “As soon as she found out, she launched the kitty, she supports us a lot,” says Cindy Flasque.

Two months of chemotherapy

Since June, the parents have been making daily return trips, Monday to Thursday, between Hazembourg and Nancy, i.e. 160 kilometers per day. The mother sleeps in the hospital while the father returns to take care of their two children who have stayed at home. The cost of gasoline is felt, as well as that of specific hygiene products. “You can’t use just any shower gel or any cream, you have to get it from the pharmacy, it’s expensive and it’s not reimbursed,” blows Emma’s mother. The little girl must undergo two months of chemotherapy. “It lasts until August, the first two went well, then after she had aplasia,” says the mother. This is a sharp decrease in white blood cells, a side effect of chemotherapy. By the end of August, the parents must see doctors at Necker Hospital in Paris for a potential liver transplant. “They are going to tell us if it is possible to operate on Emma or not, that scares us, it’s a big operation”. Cindy Flasque explains that her daughter is well followed in the hospital. Emma’s brother and sister were able to visit her once, subject to permission to enter the service. But where she feels best is at home. “She plays, she is much more smiling,” admits her mother.
