Little dachshund “Geisha” has to stay in the animal quarters

“I’m sure she’s scared”

But she doesn’t get the chance: “According to Tierquartier, I need a power of attorney or I have to be a relative,” says Johnson. It is not enough that she lives very close to the owner. “I found the dog in the vicinity without a leash twice and brought it to the owner again and again, I know her well,” she says. “In the animal quarters, she is sure to be even more afraid,” she says. A lady from Graz sees it similarly. She saw the pictures and wrote to the COURIER: “It breaks my heart!”

Unfortunately, Geisha cannot leave the animal quarters anytime soon. The reason: “Since no relatives could be determined, the city takes over the care in such cases,” says the medical officer of MA 60 (veterinary office / animal welfare). “Relatives and acquaintances with a power of attorney from the owner can pick up the animal,” says the official veterinarian. Otherwise you have to wait.

Now everyone is hoping that the owner can pick up their dog soon. According to §37 (3) Animal Welfare Act, Geisha could be released for adoption in two months at the earliest. After this period, officially accepted animals can become the property of the city. By the way: the daily rate for a dog in the animal quarter is 29.24 euros. The total amount must be paid in retrospect by the owner.
