According to the indictment, Sy Nhat N., 48, and Thin Ha V., 56, beat up a thief. They caught the thief in the afternoon and hit him in the camp. But the two men vehemently denied this.

Thin Ha V., who is responsible for the early morning vegetables deliveries in the store, explained that he wasn’t there in the afternoon – he doesn’t work there.

His boss, Sy Nhat N., recalled his staff reporting a theft to him. “Our security guard told me that the police had been called. So I went back to the office. There was nothing left to do.”

The policewoman who was first in the market stated that she did not see the two defendants on the spot at the time. In addition, the victim, who, according to the police officer, was behaving “theatrically”, did not come to the court to testify.

The judge promptly had the police bring the man up. But even the alleged thief did not provide any illuminating information for the procedure.

The result: even the public prosecutor demanded an acquittal for the accused. So it happened. The state treasury bears the costs of the proceedings.
