The authoritarian leader of the Minsk regime, Alexander Lukashenko, is trying to help Russian President Vladimir Putin annex Russia, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabriel Landsberg said in Lisbon on Thursday.
“We know what is happening in Belarus. Lukashenko is actually playing with Putin and helping Putin to annex the country. Therefore, we should also send signals to Russia that Europe will not accept annexation,” he told reporters ahead of a European Union (EU) ministerial meeting in the Portuguese capital. It is planned to talk about the landing of the airline “Ryanair” in Minsk on Sunday and the arrest of Roman Protasevich, the founder of the Belarusian opposition media “Nexta”.
As Landsberg admits, he has no doubt that “Russia knew what was happening in Minsk”, although he had no information to confirm this.
The Lithuanian Foreign Minister reminded that the West does not recognize Lukashenko as a legitimate president of Belarus.
“Right now, he wants to change the constitution so that possibly a single country is created from Belarus and Russia. So – what word would you use? only on a larger scale, “he judged.
