For the first time in history, the opening of the Paralympic Games will take place outside the stadium – the entire scene and presentation is created on Santarvė Square, and the delegations of the countries ‘ enter it from the avenue Champs Elysees.

A total of 4,400 Paralympians representing 168 countries will compete in the Games between 28 August and 8 September. They compete for 549 sets of medals in 22 sports.

Lithuanian athletes entered Santarvė square in the 90s.

The tricolor of our country was carried by swimmer Gabrielė Čepavičiūtė and athlete Donatas Dundzys at the opening ceremony.

It shows that we are moving forward as a country and as a society, that we no longer divide athletes according to strengths and disabilities, that we treat everyone equally .
