Lithuania plans to sign an agreement with the United States (USA) this week to purchase four Black Hawk military helicopters. Officials pointed out that this is one of the most important elements in the process of modernizing and strengthening the Lithuanian Armed Forces.
The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense informed that the first modern helicopters to replace the Soviet-era Mi-8 could be available by the end of 2024. The US will simultaneously supply spare parts, additional equipment, as well as training, repairs and logistics. The total amount of the contract is 213 million dollars or 181 million euros.
The army said the helicopters would provide infantry support from the air, move small units quickly, and could also be used for medical evacuation, civilian search and rescue operations.
Also in Latvia in 2018 signed an agreement with the United States for the purchase of four Black Hawk helicopters. On the portal created by the Ministry of Defense “sargs.lv”It is indicated that their delivery will take place in accordance with the previously approved schedule – the first two aircraft will arrive in Latvia by the end of 2022, and the rest – by the end of 2023.
