Lithuania was bothered by a virus, now mosquitoes

This was carried out by a rodent control company on Thursday until midnight in the most affected streets of Litovle and its local parts by spraying a solution mixed with water. In the coming days, the fight against mosquitoes will continue. This is exactly what Litovel Mayor Viktor Kohout (SNK) said on Friday.

Hygienists in our country measured 10 to 15 mosquito attacks per minute

“Hygienists in our country measured 10 to 15 mosquito attacks per minute. Sitting in the evening on pergolas, in gardens or in the shade at all is now a big problem. There is a risk of calamity, which was here after the floods in 1997, and we do not want that, “the mayor emphasized.

In April in Litovel and its surroundings, as every year, they applied the ecological product Vectobac WG to the lagoons. This happened for the second time on June 18 and 19, when a recommendation came from hygienists.

“It simply came to our notice then. This application destroys mosquito larvae and nothing else. Weather instability in the form of heat and rain is ideal for the multiplication of new foci even outside the permanent lagoon. Therefore, even in wetlands and meadows, mosquito hatching was successful and we were not able to apply the product everywhere, “Kohout explained, adding that mosquito larvae hibernate without signs of life for six years.

On Thursday, the spraying was carried out with a special product Aqua Py, which does not kill bees, it is aimed only at mosquitoes. Depending on the need and climatic conditions, preventive spraying into lagoons with vectobac will continue.

“Due to the significant mosquito trip, we must also intervene with Predator in places with a higher population, such as playgrounds, public transport stops and sitting in the park. This product repels mosquitoes for at least forty-eight hours, “said the mayor.

But mosquito control is an expensive affair. Three ten-liter barrels of Litovel vectobac cost 180,000 crowns. “Although we have created a fund with the surrounding municipalities, from which we pay this, but the money is slowly running out, so today we asked the regional crisis staff for support. We must not underestimate anything. We don’t want tourists to stop coming here. We have already been noted by covid 19. Perhaps our measures will be effective, “Kohout hopes.

It will never disappear

Oldřich Šebesta from the Brno Regional Hygiene Station recommends visitors to the Břeclav region to floodplain forests with a repellent. An expert who has been dealing with the issue of mosquitoes for a long time has been monitoring the situation around Břeclav in recent days.

“While the area around the Pohansko chateau and the location near the Lány chateau in the park was described by an expert as a place with a quite favorable situation, in other places the park, especially in the lower part near the confluence of the Dyje and Moravia, recommended spray treatment,” said Jana Pelcová, spokeswoman for Břeclav City Hall. He also directed the technique with spraying against mosquitoes to the Kančí branch near Břeclav.

According to the expert, the situation with the occurrence of mosquitoes is not calamity. “The mosquito is at home here. It will never disappear. There have been few of them in the last dry years, so people have become accustomed to the fact that the normal occurrence is considerable for them, “says Šebesta. If you are going on a trip to the popular Soutok, you should count on mosquitoes to take the repellent with you.

Mosquitoes and elevated river levels are the cause of mosquitoes. The water flooded numerous occasional pools, in which thousands of previously laid mosquito eggs awaited the water. Mosquitoes are now flying out of them.
