Lithuania is going to disconnect its energy system from the Russian one in order to assess its readiness for a break with Moscow. This is reported Bloomberg.
The operator Litgrid AB on Saturday, April 22, will conduct a check, within which it will turn off all connections to the Russian network. Electricity will come only from domestic sources, as well as from Sweden and Poland.
“For the first time in history, the Lithuanian electricity system will operate completely independently, so we are taking responsible preparation for the tests and will be ready for all scenarios,” said Litgrid CEO Rokas Masiulis.
To search for new sources of fuel, the Baltic countries will receive more than a billion euros of EU investments. According to Lithuanian Energy Minister Dainius Kreivis, the country will leave the Russian network by 2025, but may do so earlier if the tests are successful.
