Lithuania submits a protest note to Belarus over the partial closure of the border – Politics

In connection with the partial closure of the border with Lithuania by Belarus, Lithuania submitted a protest note to Belarus on Friday, the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) announced.

The note, submitted to the Belarusian embassy in Vilnius, states that Belarus has violated the agreement between the two countries on border crossing points.

“Belarus unilaterally closed the border with Lithuania on Thursday afternoon, without warning Lithuania and violating the procedures provided for in the bilateral agreement,” the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The note calls on Belarus to provide explanations for the breach of the agreement, as well as to ensure that such breaches do not recur.

It has already been reported that Belarus closed its borders with Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine on Thursday, not allowing light and passenger transport across them and initially not providing any official information, but later explaining it with the epidemiological situation in neighboring countries.
