MADRID, 14 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Lithuanian Defence Minister Laurynas Kasciunas said on Wednesday that Russia has moved some of its troops from the Kaliningrad exclave in response to Ukraine’s invasion of Kursk.

“They need more resources, they are trying to mobilise them from other directions. It is natural,” said Kasciunas, who emphasised the “morale boost” that the Ukrainian incursion into Russian territory had provided. “It was very necessary,” he told the Baltic news agency BNS.

For the first time since the beginning of the war more than two and a half years ago, Ukraine has entered Russian territory through the border with the Kursk region. According to the latest update from kyiv, at least 74 localities are under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

More than 120,000 people have been displaced by the incursion. The commander-in-chief of Ukraine’s armed forces, Alexander Sirski, said earlier this week that they had managed to control about 1,000 square kilometres of Russian territory.
