In neighboring Estonia and Lithuania, too, the government and the health industry are discussing how to encourage people to get vaccinated against Covid-19 so as not to overload hospitals. At present, all three Baltic States are approaching the situation at the time of the peak of the virus in terms of morbidity.

The Baltic States stand out against the European background with relatively low vaccination rates. In Lithuania, where both vaccines received just over 60%, the health minister said on Monday he would increase pay for GPs by around € 12 for each person vaccinated on weekdays and by around € 25 on weekends.
On Tuesday, the Lithuanian government will decide whether to pay seniors 100 euros for vaccination; or exclude testing from Covid-19 certification and other measures. As in Latvia, there is no consensus in Lithuania on what would best promote an increase in the rate of vaccination.
Lithuanian Minister of Health Arūnas Duļķis said:
“We have come up with different proposals. Every time it seems that this will be the right one and the one that will solve everything. All the proposals we have adopted so far have had more or less meaning, they have had an impact. But no one has been decisive. yet.”

In Estonia, on the other hand, where just over half of the population has completed a full course of vaccination, the government has run a number of public campaigns to encourage people to get vaccinated. GPs, in turn, are asked to consult their patients to convince them in favor of vaccination.
Estonian Health Minister Tanel Kik said: “We are launching additional activities to motivate people to get vaccinated. For example, two thirds are uninsured people who have not yet used the vaccination option, although the service is free for them. We send information about it to their homes. Second , GPs, nurses, medical students, call centers provide personal counseling to reduce people’s fear of the pot. “
