Lithium mining permits have begun

“It simply came to our notice then. We have raised all our demands regarding transport, safety, noise, dust, “assured the mayor of Hornoslavkov, Alexandr Terek (nez.).

Horní Slavkov requires the investor, Sanaka Industry (SI), to handle transport from the tailings pond from a railway about 400 meters away with a quiet and dust-free belt conveyor. The problem, however, is to find a place to load the extracted material from the belt conveyor to the railway trains. At first, the option of using the existing siding in the area of the former Stasis company was dropped, but this may now change with the change of owner.

The replacement variant will not pass

SI also came up with the option of building its own siding between Stasis and the settlement of Ležnice, but the locals did not like it. The alternative variant proposed by the inhabitants of Ležnice will probably not be possible due to the former mining. A study was created for this.

“We plan to present the results to the mayor within a month and agree on their presentation to the citizens of Ležnice,” commented SI spokesman Martin Frýdl, who believes in the agreement between landowners to rent them for the installation of a belt conveyor so that material does not have to be transported by truck.

Comments by the end of September

The documents and documentation for the application for a permit to mine lithium ore in Horní Slavkov can be inspected by prior arrangement at the OBÚ in Sokolov until the end of September. Any comments can be made in writing there. If all goes well, SI could get a permit at the turn of the year.

“Technically, mining would start within two years. The raw material from Horní Slavkov could become the starting ‘fuel’ for the Czech battery processing chain, which will bring jobs and added value to our country, “stated Frýdl.

The total amount of recoverable reserves is about 4.6 million tons, with a maximum of 360 thousand tons to be mined annually. The mining period is estimated at about thirteen years.
