Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – The Albstadt-born writer Marcel Beyer will be awarded the Peter Huchel Prize 2021. In a video session on January 15 and 16, the jury praised the volume “Demonenräumdienst” published by Suhrkamp as the outstanding new release of 2020. The prize, endowed with 10,000 euros, will probably be awarded on May 21 in Staufen im Breisgau, said the SWR on Saturday in Freiburg.

On this occasion, the awarding of the Peter Huchel Prize 2020, which had to be canceled due to corona, will also be rescheduled. The award went to Henning Ziebritzki for his volume “Vogelwerk”, published by Wallstein in 2019.

The prize, named after the poet Peter Huchel (1903-1981), is associated with 10,000 euros. Otherwise it is awarded annually on April 3, Huchel’s birthday, in Staufen near Freiburg. It is said to be one of the most important prizes for German-language poetry. It has been around since 1984; It is awarded by the SWR and the state of Baden-Württemberg. Previous winners include Ernst Jandl, Durs Grünbein, Thomas Kling, Monika Rinck, Friederike Mayröcker and Thilo Krause.
