Listening to User Proposals, WhatsApp Prepares to Hide Online Status Features

Jakarta, Gizmology – The presence of online status on WhatsApp is intended to be able to find out whether the user is using the platform or not. But there are times, we want to hide the status when we don’t want to reply to someone’s message.

Interestingly, the messaging application owned by Meta is reportedly testing a new feature that can hide the ‘Online’ status from other users. This was first noticed by the WABetaInfo website.

“WhatsApp is finally listening to user feedback by developing a feature that allows us to choose who can see when we are online on WhatsApp!,” WABetaInfo wrote in a tweet.

In the shared screenshot, this ‘Online’ option is the latest after previously only being applied to Last Seen or Last Seen. For example, if the user turns off the Last Seen feature to all contacts, the Online feature can also be adjusted like Last Seen.

This trial is planned to apply to WhatsApp beta installed on Android, iOS, and desktop (PC). The name of the feature being worked on, namely “Who can see me online or Who can see when I’m online” is still in the development stage.

It is still unknown when this feature was officially released on WhatsApp. However, this feature is considered useful for those who want to use WhatsApp without being disturbed by others or feeling like someone is stalking them.

With this update, it is possible for users to configure who can see when we are online. It’s easy. Right inside the last setting are visible two new options: “Everyone” and “Same as Last Seen”.

For example, choosing My Contacts, so those who are not in the contacts of WhatsApp users will not see the online status. If you select Nobody, the user’s online status will never be seen.

Last year, WhatsApp also reportedly started preparing another feature, namely editing messages. This feature gives users the ability to change the text that has been sent previously.

How to use it is similar to the WhatsApp emoji reaction feature which was launched some time ago. Users have to long press on the message they want to change first.
