Congratulating Latvia on its 102nd anniversary, singer and pianist Katrīna Gupalo has published an acoustic version of Imants Kalniņš’s legendary “Song, where will you start?”. This song is a harbinger of Katrina’s upcoming album “7 Sad Stars”.
This summer, during the concert tour of Imants Kalniņš’s program, I experienced countless moments of joy, when, while playing “Song, where will you start?”, The whole hall sang at the same time with me. Well, when we can’t be together due to limitations, I wanted to create this sense of community by recording not only the solo part of the song, but also all the choir’s voices – as if we were all together again, ”says Katrīna Gupalo. The song was recorded in the music and drama room “OratoriO”, sound director – Aleksandrs Volks.
“Song, where will you start?” is one of the favorite songs of Latvians, which was premiered in 1979 in the concert of the group “Menuets”. The author of its names is Viktors Kalniņš. Over the years, it has been performed by countless choirs and ensembles, but performed by Katrīna Gupalo for the first time to the accompaniment of a piano. All the vocal parts heard in the recording cover a very wide range – four octaves – and are recorded by Katrīna alone.
