Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The trend of Indonesian car sales has indeed increased, especially after the government provided a stimulus through PPnBM (Sales Tax on Luxury Goods) of 0%.
This program seems to be successful in stimulating the Indonesian automotive industry market. Nationally, car sales in September were recorded at 84,113 units, 73.24% higher year-on-year (yoy) from sales in September 2020.
Meanwhile, sales for the January-August period rose 68.67% yoy to 627,537 units of cars sold. Even though the sales trend is increasing, there are several types whose sales have fallen even to zero this September.
However, the All new Terios type X and R are the cars that experienced a 100% drop in sales this September, aka zero units of sales. This car, which is priced at 230 million, throughout 2021, has successfully sold 5,327 units for type X and 3,493 units for type X.

Another car that did not sell well in September was the Rocky 1.2 X MT which only sold 2 cars in September. Since this type of car was sold in June, the trend of sales continues to fall. Throughout the year Rocky 1.2 X MT 2021 successfully sold 3,487 units.
The next type of car that only sold a dozen units was the ALL New Rush 1.5 TRD Sportivo and the ALL New Rush 1.5 TRD Sportivo A/T. Each sold 16 units and 18 units in September, down 98% month-to-month (mom) and 97% mom.
The drop in sales of these two types of cars is quite surprising, because they are the second and third most sold cars throughout 2021 and have a market share of 3.9% and 3.0% of the total national cars.
Then the cars that are in the top 10 most sold throughout 2021 are also included in the blacklist for the most declining sales in September 2021, namely the Brio RS, Xpander Cross 1.5L PREMIUM (4X2) A/T, and HR0V E+.
Some of the factors that caused the drop in sales were the models were too old and the new types were also emerging so they lost competitiveness.
On the other hand, the government’s success in encouraging car sales through the 0% PPnBM stimulus, made the government take the decision to extend the 100% PPnBM discount until the end of 2021.
