TRIBUNNEWS.COM, JAKARTA – The TNI stated that the KRI Nanggala-402 which was lost in waters north of Bali had drowned.
The TNI Commander, Hadi Tjahjanto, said that the sign of subsunk (drowning) for KRI Nanggala-402 was stated after conducting a search for 72 hours.
“Early this morning was the deadline for live support in the form of oxygen availability at KRI Nanggala for 72 hours. Naval elements have found oil and shale spills which are authentic evidence of the sinking phase of KRTI Nanggala,” said Hadi in a press conference on Saturday ( 24/4/2021).
Ships belonging to the Indonesian Navy explored Bali waters on Friday (23/4/2021), racing against time to find the KRI Nanggala-402 which went missing two days ago.
The ship has less than a day’s oxygen supply for its 53 crew.
KRI Nanggala-402 disappeared after the last dive was reported on Wednesday (21/4/2021) in Bali waters.
Concerns mounted that the submarine might sink too deep to be reached or evacuated.
The Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy said the submarine was expected to run out of oxygen around 03.00 local time on Saturday (24/4/2021).
“We will maximize our efforts today, until tomorrow’s deadline at 3:00 a.m.,” Maj. Gen. Achmad Riad, head of the TNI Headquarters Information Center, told reporters.
There has been no sign of the submarine’s life yet, but Achmad refuses to speculate about its fate.
