List of Indonesia’s Richest People as of December 2023: Prajogo Pangestu Tops Forbes Billionaires List

KOMPAS.com – Forbes Billionaires released a list of Indonesia’s richest people as of the end of December 2023.

This was announced by Forbes via its official website on Tuesday (26/12/2023).

A number of entrepreneurs working in the mining and banking sectors are on the Forbes list of the richest people.

The number one position is occupied by Prajogo Pangestu, owner of PT Barito Pacific Timber. He has wealth of 55.2 billion US dollars or around Rp. 852 trillion.

Meanwhile, the second position is occupied by Low Tuck Kwong, owner of PT Bayan Resource Tbk with assets of 27.7 billion US dollars or around Rp. 427 trillion.

On the other hand, the owners of BCA and Djarum, Robert Budi Hartono and Michael Bambang Hartono or the Hartono brothers are in third and fourth positions.

Robert Budi Hartono’s assets are 25.7 billion US dollars or around Rp. 396 trillion, while Michael Bambang Hartono has assets of 24.6 billion US dollars or around Rp. 379 trillion.

    Quoted from Kompas.comFriday (6/12/2019), Prajogo Pangestu, who became the richest person in Indonesia, started a business in the woodworking sector in the late 1970s.

    He became General Manager of PT Plywood Nusantara in Gresik, East Java in 1976.

    A year into his career, he decided to buy CV Pacific Lumber Coy and start his own business.

    Then he changed the name CV Pacific Lumber Coy to PT Barito Pacific Timber and became widely known by the public.

    Then in 2007, PT Barito Pacific Timber changed to Barito Pacific and acquired 70 percent of Chandra Asri which operates in the petrochemical sector.

    In 2011, Prajogo founded PT Chandra Asri Petrochemical and became the largest petrochemical producer in Indonesia.

    In 2015, the company PT Chandra Asri Petrochemical collaborated with the well-known French tire company, Michelin to develop a synthetic rubber factory in Indonesia.
