Suara.com – Latest edition of the annual IT Security Economics report Kaspersky revealing the severity of the incident cyber security that affect business through the suppliers with whom they share data.
The median financial loss from such an event targeting companies is close to US$1.4 million by 2021.
This makes it the most materially detrimental type of incident, although it did not rank in the top five cyber incidents in the past year.
The overall ranking of losses from different types of attacks has also changed significantly since 2020.
Business data is typically distributed across multiple third parties including service providers, partners, suppliers and subsidiaries.

Organizations need to consider not only the cybersecurity risks that affect their internal IT infrastructure, but also the risks that could potentially come from outsiders.
According to the survey, a third (32 percent) of large organizations experienced cyber attacks involving data being shared with suppliers.
This number has not changed significantly since the 2020 report was published (33 percent).
Other types of attacks show lower financial losses including physical losses
company-owned devices (US$1.3 million), cryptomining attacks (US$1.3 million) and inappropriate use of IT resources by employees (US$1.3 million).
In terms of rankings, it’s also undergoing changes and shows how the pandemic has changed the cybersecurity landscape for businesses.

The average financial loss from each attack also decreased.
