LIST champion European Super Cup just changed after Chelsea become champions for the 2021 edition. However, Chelsea’s European Super Cup trophy collection is still not comparable to AC Milan and Barcelona.
As is well known, Chelsea won the Champions League 2020-2021 against European League champions 2020-2021, Villarreal, in the 2021 European Super Cup. The big match took place at Windsor Park Stadium, Northern Ireland, Thursday (12/8/2021), early morning WIB.
Chelsea drew 1-1 with Villarreal in normal time. Hakim Ziyech’s goal (27′) for Chelsea was returned by Villarreal striker Gerard Moreno (73′).
After there are no additional goals until the extra time is over, the match continues to a penalty shootout. In this high-fives round, Chelsea’s substitute goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga, became a hero.

Kepa saved Aissa Mandi and Raul Albiol’s penalty shots. Kepa’s action closed Kai Havertz’s penalty miss which became Chelsea’s first kicker. Chelsea also won 6-5 over Villarreal in the penalty shootout.
Chelsea won their second European Super Cup trophy since beating Real Madrid in 1998. However, Chelsea is not the most successful team in the European Super Cup.
Because, since the European Super Cup first took place in 1973 until now, Milan and Barcelona hold the title of the most successful teams. The two big teams have won five European Super Cup trophies.
After Barcelona, there are Real Madrid and Liverpool with a collection of four trophies. Then, Atletico Madrid occupies the third position with a collection of three trophies.
Meanwhile, Chelsea is in fourth position with the owners of two other European Super Cup trophies, namely Bayern Munich, Ajax Amsterdam, Anderlecht, Valencia and Juventus. Then, the other 12 teams have only won the European Super Cup once.
