Waspada.co.id – Here is a list of cellphones that will no longer support the use of WhatsApp starting October 24 2023. The messaging application owned by Meta has announced that it will stop using the application on several types of cellphones.
If you are a fairly old smartphone user, it seems like it’s time to consider switching to a new device. The reason is, it is reported that WhatsApp will periodically stop supporting its services on devices that are considered obsolete.
Currently, Android phones that can use WhatsApp start from OS 4.1 (Jelly Bean) or later. Meanwhile, OS older than that will not be able to run WhatsApp.
The WhatsApp application can be run on cellphones with Android cellphone specifications of at least OS 4.1, while for iPhones the minimum operating system is iOS 12, KaiOS 2.5.0, including JioPhone and JioPhone 2.
“Currently, we support and recommend use of the following devices, Android Phones running OS 4.1 and above, iPhones running iOS 12 and above, KaiOS 2.5.0 and above, including JioPhone and JioPhone 2,” wrote WhatsApp on the official website.
Several cellphones that no longer support the use of WhatsApp starting October 24 2023, as reported on the Times of India website, Friday (13/10), are as follows.
• Nexus 7
• Samsung Galaxy Note 2
• Samsung Galaxy S2
• Samsung Galaxy Nexus
• HTC One
• HTC Sensation
• HTC Desire HD
• Sony Xperia Z
• Sony Xperia Z2
• LG Optimus G Pro
• LG Optimus 2X
• Motorola Droid Razr
As additional information, iPhone users with operating systems below iOS 12 will also no longer be able to use WhatsApp starting October 24. WhatsApp itself regularly reviews which operating systems it will support and makes updates.
“Like other technology companies, every year we review which devices and software are oldest and have the fewest number of users to determine what support will be discontinued. These devices may also not have the latest security updates or may not have the functionality required to run WhatsApp.” explained WhatsApp.
When WhatsApp stops support for the operating system a user is using, you will be notified directly in WhatsApp beforehand and reminded several times to upgrade the operating system.
