The government is still working on the criteria for vehicles that can consume Pertalite type fuel. Most recently, Pertamina’s presentation during a Hearing Meeting with Commission VI DPR revealed that Pertalite can still be used for black plate cars with engine capacity of 1,500 cc and below.
Cars with a capacity of under 1,500 cc are indeed quite popular among the people of Indonesia. Citing data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) wholesales, which is classified by category, cars with engine capacities below 1,500 cc are the most in demand.

For 2022 (January-May), the number reached 185,028 units out of a total of 396,153 vehicles sold from all categories. The models are of course various, there are sedans, Low MPVs, and also Low SUVs.
Some of the models include Toyota Avanza, Daihatsu Xenia, Daihatsu Teros, Daihatsu Rocky, DFSK Golry i-Auto, Honda Brio, Honda HR-V, Honda Mobilio, Mitsubishi Xpander, Nissan Magnite, Suzuki Ertiga, Toyota Raize, Toyota Rush, and don’t miss the cars in the Low Cost Green Car (LCGC) segment like the Toyota Calya, Daihatsu Sigra, to the Agya-Ayla twins.
But back again, even though it is true that you will be allowed to fill in Pertalite, you still have to check the specifications of the car’s engine. Make sure the engine compression ratio is right if using Pertalite. Do not let it be, a car that is supposed to use 92 octane in the Pertamax class instead is filled with subsidized fuel like Pertalite.
Even so, until now the government has not set the criteria for vehicles that can consume Pertalite. The plan, these criteria will be announced next month. However, Pertamina has prepared a number of mechanisms when later vehicles with certain specifications are prohibited from consuming Pertalite.
“We will follow whatever from the government, we are doing the preparations,” said Pertamina President Director Nicke Widyawati in the DPR Commission VI Youtube show.
Currently, users of Pertalite and subsidized diesel have been asked to register on the page provided by entering vehicle data. Later, it will be easier to filter vehicles that may and may not use Pertalite.
“For example, if four-wheeled vehicles up to 1,500 cc are allowed to enter the Pertalite the nozzle will not come out. So there is no judgment by person,” explained Nicke.
