KOMPAS.com – PBSI as the parent badminton Indonesia called 87 athletes to follow national plate 2021.
This is in accordance with Decree number SKEP / 006 / 1.3 / III / 2021 signed by the General Chairperson of PBSI Agung Firman Sampurna and the Secretary General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
The number of 87 athletes is less than last year, where the PBSI national plate was inhabited by 105 badminton players.
Launch Badminton Indonesia, the main sector and Pratama slots are still maintained in order to prepare young players for regeneration and to pursue important achievements that are the target of PBSI.
“In 2020, not many tournaments will be held because of the pandemic. So, we cannot judge the extent to which these national team players have developed. Therefore, we decided not to change the composition of the athletes too much,” said Rionny Mainaky as Head of Development and Achievement. PBSI.
“For pratama, we believe they have great potential if they continue to be nurtured at the national level. For the main thing, we hope they can continue to compete at the top level. That’s the basis of our assessment.”
A number of names were not included in the list of 87 athletes who inhabit the 2021 National Team, including women’s singles Fitriani. This means, Fitriani was officially relegated from National Pelatnas PBSI.
Rionny Mainaky explained that PBSI has a consideration not to call the athletes again.
“For those not called yet, there are some considerations like the inability to compete until attitude at the national level, “said Rionny Mainaky.
Fitriani himself is currently ranked 37 in the world. He won the Thailand Masters 2019, but after that Fitriani was often eliminated in the early rounds of the tournament.
The promotion-relegation of PBSI is actually behind schedule. Usually, PBSI does promotion-relegation at the beginning of the year.
However, the corona virus pandemic made it difficult for PBSI to gather players to join the national plate.
Deputy Secretary General of PBSI, Edi Sukarno, revealed that to gather players to the National Team requires approval and direction from the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Covid-19 Task Force.

“Because the corona virus pandemic that has not subsided in the country has also had an impact on the summoning of players,” he said.
“PBSI can only call the players and collect all of them at the national level after obtaining approval from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Covid-19 Counteracting Task Force,” said Edi Sukarno.
Apart from players, PBSI also called 25 coaches consisting of 20 technical coaches and five physical trainers.
25 coaches and 87 athletes are scheduled to come to the PBSI National Training Center on Monday (4/4/2021) to undergo a number of medical tests.
