The opposition is opposed to the liquidation of open pension funds. “Whatever pensioners choose, they will lose”

Izabela Leszczyna from the Civic Coalition, referring to the government bill, said that the act abolishing open pension funds is unfavorable for pensioners because SISTER-u means the loss of inheritance, while choosing an IKE will cause the government to charge a 15% fee from the savings pension. – Whatever they choose, they will lose anyway – said the deputy.

On the other hand, Waldemar Buda, secretary of state at the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy, argued that the act on the liquidation of open pension funds was to ensure that pieni±dze accumulated in the fund will become the private resources of Poles.

Today we make a clear choice: either we want these funds to be private – and this is the default choice – and they will be transferred to IKE on January 28 next year as private funds, or we choose and make a decision that we want to transfer them to accounts in the Insurance Company Social. Then they are transferred to ZUS, and more precisely to the FRD (Demographic Reserve Fund), which will manage these assets – explained Waldemar Buda.

Liquidation of OFE. The funds can be transferred to IKE or ZUS

The government bill provides for the liquidation of OFE and the transfer of funds to IKE or ZUS. However, the money will go to IKE by default. About 16 million Poles insured in OFE will have to choose one of two options.

Sending funds to IKE means that the government will charge a 15% conversion fee on the value of OFE assets. The funds accumulated there will be inherited. If all those insured in OFE transfer their funds to IKE, the state may gain up to PLN 22 billion.

An alternative solution is to transfer funds to ZUS. In this case, the applicant does not pay the conversion fee, but loses the right to inherit the funds.
