You should prepare for the worst. One of the most underrated video game franchises of all time has been tapped by a Hollywood production giant as its latest venture into adaptations. Lionsgate is teaming up with Red Barrels to turn the increasingly difficult Outlast into a feature film, and to accomplish such a feat, they’ve hired a collection of horror veterans.
At the head of the project is Roy Lee, who is known as a producer of It, Barbarian, Late Night with the Devil, and Strange Darling. He collaborates with Red Barrel’s JT Petty, who is tasked with writing the script.
In a press release, Lee said the following about the project: “When Outlast launched in 2012, it changed the landscape of horror games, setting a new standard for immersion in the genre. at the heart of the series.
Red Barrels co-founder and creative director David Chateauneuf also commented on the news, saying: “As avid fans of horror in all mediums, we at Red Barrel hold Roy Lee and Lionsgate’s work in high regard. An Outlast movie with true horror legends is a dream, or rather a nightmare, come true.”
There is currently no start date or launch window for the project, but with the core team in place we hope to start seeing meaningful development and rapid pre-production.
