Things look bleak for the Detroit Lions for the remainder of the 2022 season, but one of the biggest bright spots is fast becoming security Kerby Joseph.
The Illinois newcomer has been fantastic with takeaways so far this season and wasted no time in week 9 to do the same for Detroit against the Green Bay Packers.
Playing for the Lions against Aaron Rogers in the first half, Joseph was the lucky recipient of an erratic pass that was deflected into the air and then into his arms.
However, it wasn’t just Joseph who made the big plays in the red zone. Defensive End Aidan Hutchinson stepped forward to meet fourth-placed Rodgers.
The two choices helped keep Green Bay off the board and the Packers failed to break the one-yard line with a touchdown on both drives.
An important reason for this? The elite ball game of Detroit’s newcomers. This is huge for them early in the game to keep things close
While Joseph managed to make history with a forced fumble last week, the intercept did the same for the safety of the rookie.
As the Lions PR report pointed out, Joseph produces unlike any other rookie defender Lions have chosen over many decades in terms of fumbles and wiretapping early in his career.
“Since at least 1999, Lions safety Kerby Joseph has become the first Detroit rookie to produce at least 2 FF and 1 INT in a debut season. This marks his third consecutive match with an FF or INT, “according to the site tweeted.
Joseph has been a revelation with big games so far and it’s amazing to hear he’s making history for the team with takeaways and turnovers.
Following the week 8 defeat on October 30, Joseph told the media about another great day on the pitch, amassing a total of five tackles and a forced fumble on another big hit, and used the time to educate opponents to say that does not go away.
“If you come to my area, you pay the price. If you come to my area every time you know (I saw) how they did (that in) our movie. I realized that and just wanted to do a show, “she told the media.
As Joseph said, the wideouts arriving where he is stationed should prepare to be beaten because nothing comes for free in the league.
“You want the ball, you have to pay a price, can you hear me? Nothing comes for free out here, especially if you come to me. I just have to keep acting, “said Joseph.
The Detroit defense didn’t do enough of those played that day, totaling 382 yards in the air. Even though Joseph played his part to slow him down by fumbling and playing, he wants everyone to know that Lions still need to earn their respect.
“I credit these guys. They’re also directors, you know. It’s the NFL you know and you just have to get respect. We just have to do better next week, “he told her.
Obviously Joseph is setting an example in a big way, making big plays for the Lions at this point. Both he and Hutchinson became shining examples of solid Detroit Draft players in 2022.
