The Lions had a day to forget against Bremerhaven. In the end there was a 1:7 home loss.
Frankfurt (DJ) – Calling it a “used day” would be an understatement: In the duel with their old DEL2 rivals in Bremerhaven, the Lions suffered a 1:7 home defeat on a day game 21 of the current PENNY DEL season. A completely unsuccessful first period with six goals conceded cost the Lions early chances to win against a third place team in front of 6,214 spectators at the NIX rink. Maksim Matuschkin scored a consolation goal for the Lions, while Jussi Olkinuora (9) and Cody Brenner (18) recorded a combined 27 saves in goal.
Low five
Basically the game only lasted five minutes. Or should we say: just the fifth minute? Between 4:13 minutes and 5:00 minutes, the self-proclaimed Penguins from Fischtown scored three times and decided the game so early. With this mortgage, the incredible confidence of the lions was broken, at least on that evening.
Alex Friesen from the middle of the third, Ross Mauermann with a long shot and Fabian Herrmann from the deep slot scoring three times for the guests from the north within 47 seconds. Three times the lions did much too passively and three times they were punished directly. You can probably exclude the 0:2 with Mauermann, because the puck fell off the crossbar into the goal area after Jensen’s shot and Mauermann just got a little more force on the blade than the defender and the puck crossed the goal line. With the goal of Alex Friesen, as well as the goal of Fabian Herrmann, the lions got their opponent, although the -Penguin-classic- usually moved to a dynamic level over the left side into the third (it would be written about “waddling” here a bit too much. a good thing).Twice this resulted in a free kick from a dangerous position, twice Jussi Olkinuora was left behind.
Not to be offensive
A good five minutes later, Maksim Matuschkin put the puck into the net of “Ober-Fischer” Kristers Gudlevskis to make it 1:3 – but this goal was the highlight of Frankfurt’s attack that night.
The news of Dominik Bokk’s loss, released this morning, almost seemed to have a somewhat paralyzing effect on the Lions offense, which had been very aggressive of late. Bokk suffered a lower body injury in the game against Augsburg, required surgery and will be out of the Lions for at least three months. Along with Nathan Burns and Carter Rowney, who are still injured, the Lions were missing a complete and dangerous offensive line against the best defensive team in the league. Bokk’s formation was supported by Fröberg and Wilkie by Julian Napravnik, with Kevin Bicker joining Carter Proft and Eric Brown instead.
The additions of Wilkie and Brown around the German Cup break should add depth and penetration to the Löwen Sturm. This hope lasted for two games, but now the new signs only ensure that there will be a full line or less.
If (not) working…
And at least today the failures were very obvious. At no point were the Lions able to put sustained pressure on the Penguins defense to expect a goal as a result. And near Bremerhaven? It was just the other way around: Funnily enough, without needing much speed, intensity or even finesse, the Penguins re-entered the Lions’ third and kept the puck moving there. And in the simplest way, the next double hit followed in the 16th minute: two long shots from Max Görtz and Nicolas Appendino caught in the Lions’ goal 12 seconds apart. The best of the third came from Ziga Jeglic, who was killed by Phillip Bruggisser and put the puck in the goal. Bruggisser’s shot would have missed the goal, but thanks to Jeglic it bounced into the goal – a symbolic goal for the game: Bremerhaven even scored when they shot past the goal and the Lions only very little (very) very little.
With the score at 1:6, the change of goalkeeper from Jussi Olkinuora to Cody Brenner at the beginning of the second period, which is usually used as a wake-up call, was not very effective. Before the end of the game, the Lions only conceded one more goal: Christian Wejse scored on the power play after Jensen’s shot (again) missed the goal and the rebound from the back goal band fell to his feet Wejse at the far post (34th).
After just over half of the game, the Lions were able to start to “check” the game.

Hopefully this process will be completed by Sunday. The lions visit Straubing on December 1, 2024. The game for the Tigers in the ice arena at the Pulverturm starts just in time for dessert at the first Advent lunch at 2 pm. SPIRITUAL MAGENTA broadcast the game live. The Lions host Düsseldorfer EG for their next home game on Sunday in a week (December 8, 2024). Tickets for the game are already available Löwen-Ticket-Shop.

## Lions Stumble Against Bremerhaven: An interview with Coach [Coach’s Name]
**World-Today-News.com Exclusive:** after a devastating 1-7 loss at home against Bremerhaven,we spoke with Frankfurt Lions Head Coach [Coach’s Name] to discuss what went wrong and what the team can learn from this setback.
**WTN:** Coach, that was a tough game to watch. 6 goals conceded in the first period is unheard of for this team. What happened out there?
**Coach [Coach’s Name]:** It was a really disastrous start. We came out flat, lacked intensity, and Bremerhaven capitalized on our mistakes ruthlessly. Their three goals in 47 seconds were a punch to the gut, and we never really recovered from that initial shock.
**WTN:** The team has been playing offensively strong lately, especially with Dominik Bokk’s recent contributions. Did his absence today affect the team’s offensive output?
**Coach [Coach’s Name]:** Losing Dominik is a blow, there’s there’s no doubt whatsoever about it. He brings a lot of energy and creativity to our attack. However,we can’t use his absence as an excuse for the way we played. We need other players to step up and fill that gap, and tonight we simply didn’t do that.
**WTN:** What can the team learn from this experience?
**Coach [Coach’s Name]:** This loss is a harsh lesson in the importance of starting strong and maintaining focus throughout the game. We can’t afford to give teams like Bremerhaven those kinds of early leads. We need to learn from our mistakes, regather ourselves, and bounce back with a much-improved performance in our next game.
**WTN:** Looking ahead, what are your priorities for the team in the coming days?
**coach [Coach’s Name]:** We need to analyze the game film and identify the areas were we went wrong. We’ll work on our defensive intensity, puck management, and executing our game plan consistently. It’s significant that we don’t let this loss impact our confidence going forward. We have a talented group of players, and we’ll use this experience to come back stronger.
**WTN:** Thank you for your time, Coach.
**Coach [Coach’s Name]: ** My pleasure.
