Detroit Lions (0-10-1) – Chicago Bears (4-7) : 14-16
Still missed. And still not much. The Lions led throughout the last quarter, before conceding a field goal at the last second, to lose for the tenth time this season.
A defeat not really illogical, since apart from their two touchdowns, the Detroit players did not offer much in attack. Their other seven offensives resulted in six punts and a field goal.
In the realm of sluggish attacks
The attack was not the theme of the day. Without this surprising many people, the two teams engaged in a sluggish duel. Jared Goff (21/25, 171 yards, 2 TDs) completed a lot of passes, but rarely very far. It was therefore his team that started hostilities by scoring the first touchdown. Detroit is ironed in front with a field goal then a touchdown from Jimmy Graham on a 17-yard pass from Andy Dalton (24/39, 317 yards, 1 TD, 1 int).
With one more kick, the Bears even came home with a 13-7 advantage at the break.
The inflammation is short-lived, then the punts are linked to the return of the locker room. And it is finally TJ Hockenson who allows the Lions to pass in front at the very end of the third quarter. The defense even managed to stop Chicago, but Detroit did not drive the point home.
8mn30 to win
We finally had to wait for the last drive to see an offensive built. Detroit keeps the ball for 8mn30. Dalton wins the first downs, David Montgomery (17 races, 46 yards) runs the clock. In the end, Cairo Santos just has to hit a 28-yard field goal for victory. Bingo.
Chicago remains far from the playoffs. Detroit remains in pole position for first place in the Draft. Multi-day injury outings, including D’Andre Swift, add to the gloom.
