Lionel Messi has breathed new life into Inter Miami. David Beckham is thrilled.
WHAT HAPPENED? Inter Miami’s results since Lionel Messi’s arrival are viewed with suspicion by some fans in the United States. After all, the team was the weakest team in the Eastern Conference in the MLS until June, but they won all games with Messi and won the Leagues Cup, among other things. Club owner David Beckham commented on speculation that the games could be rigged.
WHAT WAS SAID? The former England captain explained: “Every time Leo scores goals like that, every time Busi [Sergio Busquets] plays such passes and every time Jordi [Alba] the runs makes people wonder, ‘Is that rigged?’ That’s the biggest compliment you can get because it’s like a movie. You watch these players and you get emotional because their game is so beautiful.”
After the semi-final win in the US Open Cup against Cincinnati (5: 4 a.e.) on Thursday night, Beckham wrote on his social media channels: “Another great night in pink. A great performance by the team and the next final. I’m very proud.”
A LOOK AT THE NUMBERS: Messi has played eight games for Inter Miami so far, scoring ten goals. The 36-year-old also provided three assists.
