Furthermore, La Liga said that Messi could only leave Barca if a club was able to pay the release clause of 700 million euros, or around Rp. 12 trillion.
As a father and agent of La Pulga – Messi’s nickname, Jorge also issued a rebuttal to La Liga.
Following are the official statements of Jorge Horacio and Lionel Messi:
1. We don’t know which contract they have analyzed, and on what basis they (La Liga) conclude that it includes a “release clause” which applies if the player decides to activate the unilateral termination of the contract, effective from 2019.
2. It was because of an obvious mistake on their part. Thus, as the clauses of the contracts signed by the players and clubs indicate, “This compensation will not take effect when the unilateral termination of the contract takes effect from the end of the 2019-2020 season”.
As for Jorge, he met with the President of Barcelona, Josep Maria Bartomeu, on Wednesday (2/9/2020) to find out the fate of Lionel Messi.
However, as reported SPORT, the results of the meeting ended anticlimax.
No meaningful agreement was made at the meeting.
Bartomeu wants Messi to stay at Barcelona by signing a two-year contract extension.
Meanwhile, Jorge tried to find a way for Messi to leave the Camp Nou, including solving his son’s contract problems.
