Argentinian football superstar Lionel Messi appointed as Best FIFA Player 2023. Messi outperforms Erling Haaland in a very tight vote.
Messi and Haaland both collected 48 scoring points, which was revealed at a ceremony at the Eventim Apollo, London, on Tuesday (16/1/2024) early morning WIB. However, the player who is currently playing for Inter Miami is entitled to this award because he received more first places than the national team captain’s voting in accordance with the applicable rules.
Meanwhile Paris Saint-Germain and French superstar Kylian Mbappe finished third after getting 35 scoring points.
By becoming FIFA’s Best Player, Messi managed to win two prestigious awards. Not long ago, the former Barcelona and PSG player successfully won the eighth Ballon d’Or trophy.
All three finalists for this award were absent from the ceremony. French football legend Thierry Henry received the 2023 FIFA Player of the Year trophy on behalf of Lionel Messi.
Apart from that, Messi was also selected to be included in the 2023 FIFA Best Team according to FIFPro (professional footballers). Manchester City dominated by sending six players: Ruben Dias, Kyle Walker, John Stones, Bernardo Silva, Kevin de Bruyne and Erling Haaland. Thibaut Courtois, Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Junior and Mbappe complete the list.
