All of Barça are hoping for Lionel Messi’s contract to be extended soon. Even President Angel Torres of the Madrid suburban club Getafe wants the six-time world footballer to remain loyal to the Catalans.

“I discussed it with Laporta and Tebas. LaLiga cannot allow Messi to leave this year,” Torres said, according to the sports daily Marca. Should Messi leave the Primera Division, it would be “a big mistake.”
Barcelona and Messi are said to have agreed on a new contract. The Argentine has reportedly agreed to a halving of his salary.
The problem: Barça has to comply with the league’s internal financial fair play and the specified salary budget and is therefore dependent on the departure of one or more high earners (Philippe Coutinho, Antoine Griezmann).

Torres is also aware of the problem: “The best footballer in the world has to end his career in Spain, while the rules of financial control have to be adhered to.”
Currently, Messi is still on vacation after participating in the Copa America, where Argentine Albiceleste won the title in the final against arch-rivals Brazil.
