Lionel Messi (36) is sorry that he was never praised by Paris Saint-Germain for his World Cup triumph – especially after all his Argentina teammates were honored by their clubs.

Messi scored twice in the final and also scored a penalty in the penalty shootout as Argentina won 4-2 on penalties against France in Qatar.
– I was the only player of the 25 who did not receive recognition (at his club), he adds ESPN Argentina.
On the other hand, he can also understand it:
– It was understandable … because of us (Argentina) they (France) did not retain the World Cup title.
Messi left Paris Saint-Germain in June 2023 after his contract expired. The WC final took place in December 2022.
He admits to ESPN that there was “a rift with a significant group of PSG fans” and that he found it difficult to adapt in Paris.
When asked if he regretted the move from Barcelona to Paris, Messi replied:
– It just happened. It wasn’t what I expected, but I always say things happen for a reason. Although I didn’t do well there, I became a world champion while I was there.
Now the soccer star is enjoying life in Miami:
– I love what I do, I like playing, and now it’s in a different way. That’s why I made the decision to come to Miami and not continue my career elsewhere: you experience it in a different way.
– I haven’t thought about giving up in the first place. I want to continue to enjoy what I do, says Messi, who has a contract with Inter Miami until December 2025.
He still entertains the idea of playing for his boyhood club Newell’s Old Boys before calling it quits as a footballer.
Messi confirms via ESPN that he will play in the Copa América in 2024, but is unsure whether he will play in the World Cup in 2026. Both championships take place in North America.
