The Argentine international is currently playing 505 league games for the Catalan giants, just like club legend Xavi Hernandez, ahead of Cadiz’s visit to Camp Nou Diario AS.
Messi could potentially take a rest from the grid as La Blaugrana face a hectic series of games in the coming weeks, but the 33-year-old will almost certainly see some action.
A 506th league game for Messi would divert him from Xavi and Athletic Bilbao’s midfielder Raul Garcia, with the trio currently ranked number 9 on the list of appearances.
He will score one goal behind Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos (507) when he plays tomorrow and if the Spaniard is injured he could end the season with more games than him.
Real Betis star Joaquin is the highest player still in the league with 567 games spread over two periods at the Estadio Benito Villamarin as well as in Valencia and Malaga.
