San Salvador (dpa) – Four days after his controversial election as world footballer, Lionel Messi and his club Inter Miami started preparing for the new season in Major League Soccer. Miami drew goalless with El Salvador national team in a friendly at the start of a world tour.
Luis Suarez started alongside Messi for the first time in the first half; the 36-year-old Argentine already had a successful time together with the striker from Uruguay at FC Barcelona. In addition to Messi and Suarez, their long-time Barca colleagues Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba were also in the starting line-up, as was Julian Gressel, who was born in Neustadt an der Aisch, Bavaria. The 30-year-old American international, who has been playing in the USA for ten years, only moved from Columbus Crew to Inter Miami in January.
On its tour, Inter Miami will also play in Saudi Arabia, where it will face Al-Hilal, the injured Neymar’s club, and Al-Nassr with Cristiano Ronaldo.
