Solopos.com, JOGJA — Cases of syphilis or lion king disease in the Special Region of Yogyakarta in the last three years have increased.
Data from the DIY Health Service noted that in 2020 there were 67 cases of syphilis. Then in 2021 it will increase to 141 cases. In 2022, syphilis cases will increase to 333 cases. Most recently, as of March 2023, there were 89 cases of the lion king in DIY.
This lion king disease is a sexually transmitted disease that attacks the skin, genitals, mouth, and nervous system.
Head of the DIY Health Office’s Disease Control Division Setyarini Hestu Lestari said the data was from the HIV AIDS Information System (SIHA) of the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes).
“Nationally, the trend has also increased from year to year,” he said, Friday (12/5/2023).
In the 2018-2022 period, according to data from the Ministry of Health, cases of lion kings in Indonesia rose by 70 percent. In 2018, only 12,484 cases of syphilis were detected in Indonesia, while in 2022 the number jumped to 20,783 cases.
Rini explained that syphilis can be cured in DIY health services, from health centers to hospitals that can help this lion king patient.
“The medicine is like an antibiotic because this disease is caused by bacteria pale treponema,” he said.
The factor of increasing syphilis over the last three years, explained Rini, is still being researched.
“We are still processing the data, because it needs to be analyzed for each case the factors are different, further information will be provided later,” he said.
