Lion Air Group Lays 8,000 Employees

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Lion Air Group housed about 8,000 employee following the decline in flights due to the pandemic corona virus.

Corporate Communications Strategic of Lion Air Group Danang Mandala Prihantoro said as many as 25 percent-35 percent of the total 23 thousand employees were laid off. The number of laid-off employees is estimated at 8,050 people.

Danang explained that the decision was taken due to market conditions and the declining number of passengers since the Covid-19 pandemic. As a result, the number of flying frequencies also decreases.

“This condition causes the number of production jobs with human resources to be inappropriate. Therefore, within the required period of time Lion Air Group announces a reduction in workforce by laying off 25-35 percent of employees, from 23 thousand,” said Danang in a written statement, Saturday (31 /7).

Danang emphasized that his party did not terminate the employment relationship (PHK). Because as long as employees are laid off, Lion Air Group will provide assistance for living needs.

“As long as they are laid off, Lion Air Group will try to help provide life support according to the company’s ability,” said Danang.

He also explained that the decision was taken with the aim of maintaining a sustainable and well-maintained business, streamlining the company, and reducing expenses.

He also said he appreciated the employees and thanked them for the support and dedication of the employees so far.

“Lion Air Group is still monitoring, collecting data and information, and studying the situation,” he said.
