Linz looks at the stars

31

Today is International Planetarium Day. Linz is also involved here – thanks to the Kepler Observatory on Freinberg, which is like Linz’s eye into space.

The Linz observatory was built 40 years ago by the “Kepler Observatory Linz” association. The aim of the association is to familiarize the people of Linz with astronomy.

The Linz observatory is equipped with a computer-controlled Cassegrain reflecting telescope (Own construction in the year 2000) which has a primary mirror with 500mm aperture and a focal length of 5m. Some images taken through the telescopes of the Kepler Observatory can be found in the picture gallery the observatory.

From January to May and September to December, a publicly accessible guided tour takes place every Friday – observations through the telescope are only possible when the sky is cloudless. Registration is required to participate.

Tip: It is best to visit the observatory when the shooting star streams are most active, for example on Friday, May 5th.
