A senior doctor was fired because of Instagram photos. The works council is stunned. The doctor says he had the hospital’s approval.
Since Christmas 2022, a specialist at the Linz Kepler Clinic is said to have posted several before and after pictures of patients on his Instagram page. As the doctor asserts, this happened with the consent of those affected and also the Linz hospital.
The man has posted photos of rhinoplasty or other cosmetic treatments on his account, which is followed by a few hundred people.
“I’ve already asked the employer and they said: You’re not allowed to do that on the KUK work channels, but that’s not a problem on the private profile,” the affected patient told the “Krone”.
No approval according to the hospital
On Thursday, the doctor is said to have been released from the clinic in the morning. In the letter of termination, the Instagram pictures were cited as the reason. There was NO consent for it. And posting such photos is a serious breach of official duties.
Dismissal despite an acute shortage of doctors
The works council is stunned by the measure. There are currently 300 vacancies at the Kepler Klinikum, there is an acute shortage of doctors, and the emergency rooms are full. “Especially when I think that recently a six-year-old boy waited in the ER with his mom for more than 10 hours because he was bleeding from his ears and didn’t have an ENT specialist available. And then one of them gets fired for something like that.” , according to works council member Helmut Freudenthaler in the “Krone”.
