Lufthansa canceled the Linz-Frankfurt connection in the spring of 2024 due to capacity problems. Now it will be served three times a day again – but with Braathens Regional Airlines from Sweden on a wet lease for Austrian Airlines. An ATR 72-600 with 72 seats is used. The supply is done by the supply group DoN – the airport’s partner.
“We are very pleased that Upper Austria is now connected to Frankfurt again and that we were able to convince Austrian Airlines to take over the route. It was important to us that Frankfurt was flown to three times a day to be able to cover. as many connecting links as possible,” explains Norbert Draskovits, Managing Director of Linz Airport.
Ryanair is coming, SkyAlps is gone again
As business travel has not yet returned to pre-crisis levels, it would make sense to operate the route with high frequency but with smaller aircraft, says Drakovits. It is also important that the flights are operated in codeshare with Lufthansa. This means that passengers can use a combination of domestic, continental and intercontinental journeys with just one ticket.
Also on October 28, 2024, the Irish low-cost airline Ryanair resumed flights between Linz and London-Stansted after a break of 2,193 days. They are scheduled to fly every Monday and Friday. The Italian regional airline SkyAlps has removed the connection from Linz to Düsseldorf from its flight schedule almost at the same time. Recently, however, only two flights per week could be booked.
