Linus Tech Tips is one of the most famous tech experts on YouTube. But figures show it lost more than 30 million monthly viewers in September 2023. What has happened there?
Linus Sebastian is one of the best-known tech channels with his YouTube channel “Linus Tech Tips”. The “Linus Media Group” now includes several companies such as “Creator Warehouse” and “Floatplane Media” and not just the YouTube channel with its subchannels.
But compared to the last few months, the number of viewers has dropped surprisingly sharply. This probably has various reasons.
Linus Tech Tips has 30 million fewer video views than in August
What do the current numbers look like? So far in September, Linus has about 57 million views compared to 93 million in August. September isn’t quite over yet, but at the end it will probably be around 30 million views short of the previous month. Why is that? The YouTube channel no longer uploads a video every day like it used to. This inevitably leads to the channel being able to collect fewer video views. There is also an extensive discussion behind this.
Big controversy overshadows Linus Tech Tips
The big problems in August are also likely to play a role when you look at the decreased numbers.
What problems are these? Linus Tech Tips was accused of sloppy work and unethical behavior in mid-August: The well-known channel “Gamers Nexus” pointed out some quality errors and other problems at Linus Tech Tips. Because instead of paying attention to quality, they would rather deliver a video every day.
In connection with this controversy, Linus Tech Tips lost more than 200,000 subscribers. A little later, however, Linus Sebastian explained somewhat contritely that they owned up to the mistakes and wanted to reinvent the tech channel. This is also a reason why videos no longer appear on the channel every day.
And if you haven’t noticed yet: Linus Sebastian has no longer been the boss of “his” company since July 1st. However, Linus will continue to stay with the channel and explained the move as being about getting more time for video content again:
