She was hanging on to the top – but suddenly broke a pole and slipped behind.
– It was a bit of a trick, she tells Sportbladet.
With a few hundred meters left in the 20 kilometer race, the rod clicked.
Then Svahn plowed on with an empty right hand before she got hold of a new one. She thinks it must have been hit earlier.
– It just burst. It was just to try to minimize the damage, says the 24-year-old.

Linn Svahn is second in the overall World Cup and was closing in on leader Jessie Diggins after yesterday’s victory.
Her strength in a mass start is hanging on and then sprinting down her opponents at the end. That’s why the staff break came especially untimely.
– It felt like I had passed my critical point on the track and had my strength left. It was sad not to be able to test how far it could have gone, says the 24-year-old.
Wanted to be in peace
Linn Svahn was finally tenth in the mass start. Immediately after the race, she went straight out of the finish line and without talking to anyone, she went and sat down in the snow in the Swedish changeover line. Noticeably disappointed.
– It’s nice to just be in peace for a bit, says the Swede.
What emotions do you leave the day with?
– Now I feel a little disappointed and angry, so we have to try to save it.
The next task is the World Cup in Canmore between February 9 and 13.
