It seems like the ideal time to give your website a makeover. Wednesday announced the online library Wikipedia announces that it will revamp its website for the first time in ten years, and last night it was up to LinkedIn to announce changes. The interface The social media platform for professional users received a last major update after the takeover by Microsoft a few years ago.

Since then, LinkedIn has grown enormously. Today the app has an active community of 700 million active users. Every second, three people would find a job somewhere in the world thanks to LinkedIn. A renewed interface should improve the user experience and give the platform a warmer appearance.

Users central

In a blog post CEO Ryan Roslansky shows what the new LinkedIn will look like. For example, on the left under your profile it will be more clearly shown which hashtags you follow, and you will get a better overview of groups to which you belong and which events you will participate in. The news feed remains central, and on the right you get an overview of news updates that may be of interest to you, as well as interesting companies and people to follow. The familiar shortcuts such as My Network, Messages and will remain at the top, but will look different. Search functions are also being streamlined.

With these changes LinkedIn wants to put its users more central again. Personally, the new design reminds me of the Facebook interface.

Video chat

The changes go further than purely the appearance of LinkedIn. There are also some new and useful functionalities. One of the most striking new features is that you will soon be able to start a video call via LinkedIn, as is the case with many social media applications today. Those video calls will take place in a professional environment, because LinkedIn will integrate Microsoft Teams, Zoom and the American BlueJeans within its own application. It looks like video conferencing will be part of our daily lives for a while, so with this new feature, LinkedIn is making it a lot easier to connect with your network.

Stories

According to Roslansky, the idea of Stories has also emerged from this urge to stay connected. This will initially launch LinkedIn exclusively for US users, but subsequent expansion into international markets certainly does not seem out of the question. LinkedIn Stories will be no different from the Stories we already know from Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat. According to LinkedIn, Stories should serve to maintain informal contact with colleagues, and they are the replacement for the coffee maker.

Stories will therefore take a little longer, but the new design and the integration with Teams and Zoom would already be rolled out in the course of this year. What do you think of the new LinkedIn? Give your opinion at the bottom of the comments!
