NIJMEGEN – It is becoming increasingly clear that the health of the gut and the brain are linked. But what exactly changes in gut health do to the brain is not yet known. Researchers want to look into this further with the help of vitamin supplements.
The average life expectancy of people continues to rise. As a result, more and more people are getting an incurable brain disease, such as dementia. More and more people are also noticing that their memory or thinking ability gets worse with age.
Because no medicine or cure has yet been found for dementia or cognitive decline, a lot of research is being done to prevent or delay the development of these age-related diseases. We now know that gut health may play an important role in brain health. What is striking is that intestinal health can be adjusted by taking certain nutritional supplements or making changes in the diet.
Researchers from Radboud University Nijmegen, the Donders Institute and Wageningen University want to investigate which changes in the intestines are associated with changes in the body and brain. And thus influence a healthy brain and healthy aging.
Do you want to help the researchers make new discoveries? Register as a participant for this study. You will receive a reimbursement of 152 euros and a travel allowance (up to a maximum of 50 km per single journey).
The researchers are looking for people between the ages of 60 and 75 who are willing to travel to Nijmegen and Wageningen and who have at least two dementia risks that you can change (such as high cholesterol, overweight, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, heart disease or lack of exercise).
