Lineage Logistics adds footprint to central port facility in Savannah, Georgia, USA

Today, Lineage announced plans to enter the large-scale fresh and perishable import distribution business at a next-generation facility near the Port of Savannah. The company will invest $ 62 million in the new building, which in Port Wentworth, Chatham County will add nearly 100 people to the 65 jobs it has created to build the project. Operated as a cross-dock, in which a product enters the building on one side and is transported away by truck on the other side on the same day, the facility also offers the option of smoking, packaging and other value-adding services for customers who buy fresh produce be able to efficiently bring them to the markets in the southeast of the USA. Construction work on the facilities is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.

Lineage also announced that it has opened Phase I of its temperature controlled warehouse on Tremont Road, near the port of Savannah. For both imported and exported products such as poultry, the facility provides approximately 19,000 square feet of air freezer, crate room, and customs clearance facilities to enable streamlined processing in and out of the port. Eventually, when fully operational, the facility will employ up to 100 native Georgia residents.
