Repair work on line B continues. The first seven trains have been reassembled and are currently in the inspection and testing phase. The timetable is being met and should allow us, by mid-June, to have 18 trains sufficient for proper operation. The date of return to service depends on the state security services.
Line B of the Rennes metro has been non-stop since January 3, after a mechanical part broke on the pivot axis of one of the four bogies in one of the trains.
Siemens Mobility, in agreement with Keolis and Rennes Métropole, proposed to return to “ex-factory” configuration, as a protective measure, the relevant parts on the 100 bogies of the 25 trains on line b. This activity takes place in Limoges, on the industrial site of the supplier Siemens Mobility. The bogies are disassembled by Keolis in the Rennes maintenance workshop, before being transported to Limoges, and then reassembled in Rennes.
In close collaboration with Rennes Métropole, the technical teams from Siemens Mobility and Keolis continue to carry out all the technical work necessary to return line B to service as soon as possible.
Situation update on May 13
- Seven oars were reassembled. They are currently following a protocol of controls and tests including driving standards.
- Disassembly, factory reset and reassembly of the pivot axles continues, at the rate of 12 pivot axes per week, or three trains per week.
- This level makes it possible to check the operational availability of 18 trains from mid-June, enough to operate in this period.
Without judging the results of continuous evaluations (made independently), the analyzes and studies have allowed Siemens Mobility to identify the evolution of the axle pivot nut locking system. This is expected to avoid the events in November 2023 and January 2024 again.
After discussions with Rennes Métropole and Kéolis Rennes, the three parties considered it appropriate to carry out this technical development. This will be accompanied by an update on maintenance and operations management, without affecting the timetable for rearranging the trains.
The decision to return it to commercial use rests with the regulatory authority issued by the Technical Service for Ski Lifts and Transport (STRMTG) and the Prefecture. It is only after this step that the date will be returned to the ba line service and then announced.
