After months of successive delays, the extension of metro line 14 will come into service on Thursday, December 17, 2020 and will serve in particular Clichy (Hauts-de-Seine). However, the new station built in part on the town will not bear the name of the city, yet built on horseback with Saint-Ouen (Seine-Saint-Denis).
The habit of appending the two names of the cities concerned
A subject raised during the municipal council, Tuesday, November 24, by Michel Lejeune-Mengwang. The opposition elected present on the list Clichy in common was surprised to “discover[ir] that the future metro station would be named Saint-Ouen and not Clichy-Saint-Ouen as indicated for years. This is also still the case on the information site for the extension of the line which will join the future station. Saint-Ouen Town Hall.
Noting that “it is customary, when a station is on the border of two municipalities, that it bears their two names side by side” Michel Lejeune-Mengwang also recalled that “the Hauts-de-Seine department funded this project at the same height as that of Seine-Saint-Denis. However, Clichy will not appear in the name of the station.
The RER C station was already in existence
What confirmed Remi Muzeau. The mayor (LR) speaks of a “question of great importance. However, he assures that he is not a decision-maker, the competence falling to Île-de-France Mobilités. In a letter sent in 2016, Valerie Pécresse, president of the organization, detailed:
“This new station will be in correspondence with the current station of the RER C Saint-Ouen. However, the naming rules of STIF (ex Île-de-France Mobilités, editor’s note) require that two stations or stations in correspondence carry the same name, this name being imposed by the most structuring mode (train, metro, tramway). “
However, it is not a new station which was created, the future station of the line 14 being added to the equipment which accommodates the RER C since 1988. The rules of naming of the stations “recommend to keep the name of the station or pre-existing station when creating a new interconnection ”according to Rémi Muzeau. Clichy will therefore not be added.
Two outings in Clichy
What also to avoid a new station with Clichy in the name, after Place de Clichy, Porte de Clichy, Mairie de Clichy (line 13) and Clichy-Levallois (lines H and L). However, the mayor assured to have rewritten to Valérie Pécresse to ensure the indication of Clichy on the planned exits on boulevard Victor-Hugo and rue Madame-de-Sanzillon. But to go to Clichy with line 14, you will have to get off… at Saint-Ouen.
