Line 14 South: 12 km out of 14 already dug!

18 months after the start of the 3 tunnel boring machines in charge of digging the tunnel for the extension of line 14 to the south, nearly 12 km of tunnel have been built today. If the Koumba tunnel boring machine has finished its mission, Claire and Allison continue their journey for the few hundred meters which separate them from their point of arrival.

The first of the 3 tunnel boring machines of the 14 South to reach the end of its mission, the Koumba tunnel boring machine finished its 4.1 km run from Morangis, on the site of the future Pont de Rungis station in Thiais on September 17. The imposing machine has been being dismantled before being evacuated in spare parts to its manufacturer’s site in Germany.

Starting from Pont de Rungis, the Claire tunnel boring machine had completed nearly 3.5 km on its 4.2 km route when it crossed the south tympanum of the future Chevilly Trois-Communes station in Haÿ-les- Roses, September 28. His shifting to the north of the structure lasted 4 weeks, then he left to dig the remaining 660 m. Today, Claire has less than 150 meters to dig to reach her point of arrival, in the well of the Jean Prouvé structure.
For its part, the Allison tunnel boring machine arrived on September 24 in the Kremlin-Bicêtre Hôpital station box, 3.2 km from its starting point, after passing through the Villejuif-Institut Gustave-Roussy structure and the filled quarry areas at the Kremlin. -Bicêtre. After 3 weeks of ripping, Allison left for Paris. Today, it is only 900 m from the Maison-Blanche Paris XIIIe station from where it will be extracted. Its arrival, expected in early 2021, will mark the end of the digging of the 14 km tunnel of the 14 South!
