Lincoln Center to Offer Free Shows with ‘Verano para la Ciudad’ Program – NBC New York (47)

If you are already looking for summer plans in New York City that include free shows, the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts (LCPA) aims to take a new approach in which it will bring hundreds of free events under theat the initiative the “Summer for the City”.

The initiative is launched by Shanta Thake, artistic director of Lincoln Center, with a three-month program that involves the entire campus with more than 1,000 artists, 300 events and 10 outdoor stages.

“We are all looking for a remedy for the turmoil and pain of the past two years. Art can help provide it – from group singing to milestone celebrations. We must empower ourselves to allow the joy to return, together,” said Henry Timms, president and CEO of Lincoln Center.

The season runs from May 14 to August 14 with the theme “Rejoice, Claim, Remember” which represents the healing of a city during the unprecedented times of COVID.

This occurs after the “Restart Stageslast year, which created an outdoor performance space to boost the arts during the pandemic, as well as this spring’s added “Choose What You Pay” model for ticketing.

“Earlier this year, we tried ‘Choose-What-You-Pay‘ with our American Songbook series, to help ensure greater access. The pilot has been very successful – 70% have been first time LCPA ticket buyers which is very exciting and we are almost completely sold,” Thake told our sister network. NBC New York.

Performances include a variety of entertainmentsuch as large-scale song, dance festivals, sculpture installations, movies, and temporary shows.

On the other hand, Lincoln Center plans to reinvent Josie Robertson Plaza and open the city’s largest outdoor dance floor, “The Oasis,” complete with a 10-foot disco ball.

The entrance to the events “Summer for the City” will be available for free through general admission, on a first-come, first-served basis. A free advance reservation service for certain exhibits will be an option, giving guests priority access to book early. For more information visit this website.

“Choose What You Pay” tickets will also be extended into the summer season.
