For Barcelona, the match in the 1/16 final was the first match in the next edition of the King’s Cup. However, their rivals had to play two matches. In the 1/64 final, Linares defeated Gimnastic 1-0, and in the next round they dealt with Deportivo Alaves, winning 2-1.

The match started as planned, because Barca created the first convenient situation. In the 18th minute, Ilias Akhomach shot on goal, but it flew past the post. A minute later, however, Barca fans had to rub their eyes in amazement.
Francisco Carnicer received a pass from the sideline and crossed into the penalty area. There was great Hugo Diaz, who defeated Neto with a head shot from the fifth meter and took the hosts to the lead. The result did not change until the break and the players of the third league were coming to the dressing room in better moods.
During the hiatus, Xavi made a few changes and it worked out pretty quickly. In the 63rd minute, Ousmane Dembele, introduced a dozen or so minutes earlier, received the ball in the penalty area and with a shot without being accepted, he equalized.
Six minutes later everything was back on track. The football was accepted in the “sixteen” by Ferran Jutgla and with a certain shot in the bottom corner he took Barcelona to the lead. In the 75th minute, however, it could have been a draw. Cristian Carracedo sent a strong blow, but only hit the crossbar.
Three minutes later, Barca returned with the same. Dembele, who also hit the goal frame, did not take advantage of the good situation. Alvaro Sanz Catalan also lost a chance for a raise and sent the ball past the post. Ultimately, no more goals were scored. Thus, Barcelona won the match 2: 1 and advanced to the 1/8 finals of the King’s Cup.
